The application of Botox has a variety of applications: softer the lines of expression, correction of hipper hydrsis (excessive sweating in palms and arm pit), and alternative treatment in some types of migraines.

Botox is the purified toxin of bacteria (clostridium botulism). This purified toxin will create a temporary paralysis of the muscle. This paralysis will take up to 3 to 5 days to settle in and the result can last up to 4 to 6 months.

The typical areas of applications for Botox in the treatment of fine lines is: forehead, frown lines, and the crows feet, the are other areas that not so typical but it can be used with good result, such as the lines right next to the nose, the muscle bands of the platisma muscle in the neck, and some of the lines around the mouth (personally I rather use filers and resurfacing)

The treatment consist of a simple injection. The medication in the muscle and the doses will depend on the size and strength of the muscle. The procedure takes a couple of minutes and the most common complication is a small bruise (especially if patients are in there period they tent to bleed more so avoid those days. It is important to avoid areas very close to the brows because this can cause the medication to run down to the upper eyelid creating a poises (drooping of the upper eyelid)

The patient normally can go back to work the same day and must expect to see the result after 3 to 5 days. The botox can be use to reduce the amount of sweating in the palms and the arm feet, the procedure will consist of a series of injections to cover the most of the area, the patient can expect to see the result in 3 to 5 days and the result will last up to 4 to 6 months.

Treatment of Migraines

I have the opportunity to treat several patients with migraines. The pain has to be located to the temporal and frontal area (the theory is that the pain located in this area is related to a spasm or collapse of the temporal artery, so an injection of a medication that paralyzes the muscle will relive the spasm). Most of the patients whom I’ve had the opportunity to inject Botox, have had great results. They normally get the result in 3 to 5 days and it last up to 6 months. They are sure to come back for more treatment onces the effect wears off. Usually it is a simple injection right next to the temporal arterial. I have never seen any side effects.
